Clean The Bay -- deckhands needed

DEM and Clean the Bay have embarked on a unique initiative to rid Narragansett Bay of large, medium, and small marine debris. To effect a "Clean Sweep" of our Bay, we will couple the use of our uniquely equipped Mechanized Landing Craft (LCM) to access debris in the water along with organized shoreline cleanups at the water's edge. Captains Alan Wentoworth and Ed Hughes have begun to operate the LCM on a daily basis and are in the process of implementing this phase of the Clean Sweep. Join us on board and become a steward of the environment and active in reviving the health of Narragansett Bay by offering your services to this project. For more information, please visit www.cleanthebay.org. When: The LCM is now operating on a near daily basis, depending on weather and tidal activity. Location: The LCM is docked at Sea Tow's office in Quonset Point, where it leaves from each day. However, depending on the location of each days cleaning, arrangements may be made to pick up volunteers at certain coastal locations or docks. Requirements: Must be able to work in the sun doing strenuous physical activity. Volunteers must feel comfortable working with their hands to get large items into on-board dumpster, and must be comfortable working near machinery. Sign Up: teddy.fusaro@dem.ri.gov or 401-222-3434 ext. 4401
